OK not sure if this should be in this forum or the digital print one, I'm sure I'll find out if it's the wrong one!!!
I'm in a long-running 'dispute'/discussion with my managers about ink limits on self-adhesive vinyl when printed on our grand-format solvent machines.
Basically we've been in trouble before from a client due to graphics falling off due to what we believe to be too much ink on the substrate, thus compromising the adhesive properties.
The ink limit for said vinyl is 250%, but trying to quantify how much ink we actually printed on the vinyl is proving hard. I've now had to set the ink limit in Onyx Media Manager to 250% so at least I can show what it is set to, but this is really dampening down the richer colours.
What are your thoughts on the ink limits that SAV manufacturers state in their technical sheets? Is it just some phantom value chosen to cover their backsides, putting the oweness on the printer? Surely this can't be true;)?
