Line on our plates going down the plate

We have a RIPit Speedsetter X2 imagesetter with a Vastech EZ-14 processor. We are getting a line on the plates going down the length of the plate, 3.5" from the edge. If we use thinner material, you can barely see it, but ink won't stick to it like it will on the thicker plates. I have cleaned all the rollers in each assembly (dev, fix, wash). I have taken each out and let the material go through and it's still there. I changed rolls of film. It's still there. I've done everything I know to do and just cannot figure out what's causing this. Anyone else out there have this problem before? Any ideas? We have some thinner material on order, but our press operator prefers the stiffer, thicker material. Attached is a pic showing the line.

Hi everyone, first time poster, long time listener.

i have an Epson 9900 that came with a pc with the Wastach Rip preinstalled on it (with dongle)

now, the pc is giving me issues, i think something has become corrupt, i wanted to know how tricky it would be to reinstall the RIP onto a newly formatted pc? is it just like standard software or will i need to call a print tech out?

Cheers for the advice.

Fuji Xerox 700, best settings consistent printing.

hi guys,

we have an in house Fuji xerox 700 that we use for all our digital printing.

i've never been overly happy with the print quality of the machine, lots of banding and patchy colours etc.

I've also noticed that one of the companies we use who also use an in house 700 get much better prints from their machine than we do.

we're using the Fiery RIP and they're not but i was wondering if there was a settings profile that everyone uses or if going through the colour profiling i've not set it to the best options?

i'm fairly new to digital printing and get a bit lost in the device settings colour profile set up etc ISO COATED & FULL OUTPUT GCR as default?

any advice on the machine and setup would be greatly appreciated.

Its not hard...

C85 Azura (Rebadged G&J) Plate Conveyor won't stop running.

Came in this morning to the processor front end plate conveyor drive continuously running. Manual said it was the rear plate detector (S2) switch. Swapped it out with the (S1) switch, which in theory should have reversed the problem if it was a faulty switch, but didn't make a difference. Anybody ever deal with this? I can post pictures of the circuit board. All relays seem lit.

Hello Folks,

Running a Nexpress S2500 - it has now happened twice now that the transfer web becomes 'burnt' with a honeycomb pattern, see attached photo. Anyone have any ideas what is causing this. We keep a clean machine, maintained regularly, not sure what is happening here.

Thanks,

impo software choices...

I am still using Preps 5 and I have my users have 2 macs on their desks. Older for running Rampage 10 and preps 5 and newer running Mavericks and Mountain Lion running prepress apps. I am upgrading Rampage soon to ver 12 and I want to replace Preps 5 with something else.

Since Preps 6 has all new interface I can easily try to get something else. We need to lear all new interface anyway and I am not sure kodak will continue developing preps. Preps 6 was released long time ago. There is no standalone Preps 7 and I am not switching to Prinergy.

I can go with Preps 6, Metrics or Dynastrip. Is there anything else I should consider?

We are sheetfed offset so we need to manually tweak our impos most of the time.

Evo Color Managment

So i believe im a little lost... or maybe i just need some reinforcement of my own thoughts.

What I want to do is have my proofs output the same machine on one as the other. As we are planning on phasing out one of the pieces of equipment.

I am under the impression that this conversion can be done through a process template in evo, most particularily the Match Colors tab. Utilizing ICC profiles for the devices.

Now.... this is where im getting confused i believe.

In the color matching pool ...

I have "assign source or devicelink profiles" (I believe this is the one that im supposed to be migrating the color to - so the condition of what needs to be output- Ie the icc profile of the old printer)

I have the "convert to destination profile" aka Proof Profile (this would be the icc profile of either the Proofer itself or the standardized profile - ex. Swop. or A self made profile from the proofer itself)

But i think im mixing something up here. as something just doesnt seem right.

Any takers want to point me in the right direction ?

Optimizing photography for print

Hi all,

Here is the issue we are facing. We have clients who take their own pictures and we incorporate them into designs for printing. Sometimes, the pictures are taken without proper lighting (typically in a home) and they look dull and do not pop. Is there a way to optimize these pictures in Photoshop or any other program in Creative Suite. All these pictures are usually the exterior or interior of homes. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.
